ESA GTIF Demonstrator Showcase

Compass Informatics is excited to be involved in the ESA Green Transition Information (GTIF) Demonstrator Showcase on the 18th of November held at Enterprise Ireland Offices in Dublin. 

 

This in-person gathering begins with a networking lunch at Enterprise Ireland’s Dublin offices, bringing together stakeholders from diverse government sectors, industries, and domains across the UK and Ireland to share expertise and collaborate.

Our Role in the ESA GTIF Project

As part of the European Space Agency’s Green Transition Information Factory (GTIF) project, we are focused on leveraging EO data to address critical challenges. The global climate and sustainability crisis calls for urgent action. To drive the transition toward a carbon-neutral future, we are using Earth Observation (EO) data to create innovative solutions for a more sustainable planet.

The workshop will go over the details of the ESA GTIF project. You’ll learn how EO data is used to generate actionable information, allowing various stakeholders to:

  • Decision-makers: Assess policy effectiveness, monitor progress towards goals, and make data-driven choices for a sustainable future.
  • Industry: Develop innovative solutions for the Green Economy, leveraging space technologies and collaborating within the GTIF ecosystem.
  • Citizens: Engage with the Green Transition by understanding the challenges and solutions through interactive tools and compelling scientific narratives.

Applying Earth Observation for Sustainability

The global climate crisis demands immediate action. Transitioning societies and economies towards carbon neutrality requires a multi-faceted approach encompassing policy, innovation, and a sustainable relationship with our planet’s resources.

The ESA GTIF project tackles this challenge head-on by harnessing the power of Earth Observation (EO) data.

This innovative project focuses on the UK, Ireland, and France. Compass Informatics will be focusing on five key areas crucial for this Green Transition:

  • Energy Transition: Optimising solar power siting through advanced geospatial analysis to identify areas with the highest potential for solar energy generation.
  • Mobility Transition: Mapping PM2.5 concentrations to understand air quality and inform policies that promote sustainable transportation options, reducing emissions.
  • Carbon Accounting: Tracking fugitive methane emissions with high accuracy using remote sensing and geospatial data analysis for better management and mitigation strategies.
  • Food Systems: Monitoring droughts in food-growing areas using real-time data and geospatial tools to enable early intervention and improve food security.
  • Sustainable Cities: Mapping heat loss and urban heat island effects to identify areas needing energy efficiency improvements and develop strategies for cooler, more sustainable cities.
