Field data capture – Dublin area (August-Sept)

(August 2nd 2018)

We currently have two field data capture positions for a transport infrastructure survey. Please send CV and contact details to careers@compass.ie.

The survey will start asap in August 2018, and will involve foot and cycle-based survey in the Dublin area.  The survey equipment is straightforward and includes a standard mobile phone and a custom app.  There is an initial 6 weeks.

SQL Server Developer – Galway

(August 2nd 2018)

We have a SQL Server developer role based in Galway, Ireland.  The appointed person will work with existing science and systems teams on data management and analysis for marine management.   You will be part of the Compass Informatics seconded team based on-site with a key client.  

The role is for a database developer, ideally with database administration skills, to manage and develop SQL Server databases relating to marine data.  You will work on configuring and tuning databases, but also with supporting data integration and access. The work is across marine environmental and management research programmes, and so offers an interesting and challenging opportunity.

There is also opportunity for development and application of data analysis skills with modelling and report development to work with a range of scientific and environmental datasets to facilitate the development of intermediary and information products. The developer will be focused on ensuring data are appropriately processed, stored and integrated.

The applicant will need strong knowledge and experience of manipulating data with Relational Database Management Systems, and specifically SQL Server and associated analysis and integration tools e.g. SQL Server Integration Services, Reporting Services or similar tools. 3 years+ experience of working with enterprise database systems and / or analysis tools is required.

Strong querying / reporting skills are essential for the role and experience of developing or working with data views and / or reporting and analysis tools to develop information products and services would be very beneficial.

You should have at least 3 years’ experience of working with enterprise database systems.

  • SQL Server 2008 upwards
  • SSRS, SSIS
  • Strong team liaison skills
  • Willingness to learn of scientific data
  • Skills in R of additional interest and value.

In this role there are opportunities for interesting liaison with senior data analysts, users and scientists; exposure to data management best practice; and opportunity to develop technical skills particularly in SQL but potentially in R and related areas.

Terms:

Senior GIS Developer, Dublin team

(July 2018)

We seek an experienced and skilled GIS Systems Developer to join our Dublin (Ireland) team and play a senior role in project design, delivery, team and client liaison.

Main required skills:

  • Esri ArcGIS Server development including ArcGIS JavaScript API.
  • Data management in ArcGIS Server / SQL Server.
  • Good SQL database skills & SQL Management Studio.
  • Ideally strong Python or R or similar.
  • Strong teamwork and leadership experience.
  • Ordered and structured approach to work, documenting, with some experience in project management and delivery.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Qualification in GIS or IT, or otherwise have excellent work experience in this area
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • At least 3 years relevant work experience

Terms:

  • Rewarding salary (or daily rate if preferred), pension, health insurance, permanent health insurance, death in service, CPD support.
  • Long-term contract.

Pending Roles

  • Galway, Ireland – Data Analyst with strong SQL (SQL Server), R, and potentially GIS, Python and other skills.
  • Dublin, Ireland – Junior GIS Analyst with desktop GIS, some SQL, Python ideally and strong technical aptitude, accuracy and structure in work practice.
